Story about shoemaking in my family
begin with my grandfather ,he learned shoemaking from one Hungarian
master shoemaker in Novi
Sad,and 1940 he was promoted in title of Master
shoemaker.Unfortunately he died when i was 9 years old ,and i haven't
opportunity to learn craft from him.
But my father learned craft in craft
school and he had practice in workshop where was my grandfather
working .When he finish school ,he was good craftman especialy
modelist and upper maker ,but my father was adventurer and he never
liked too much shoemaking ,he prefer to be room painter , and he
began learning that job from one old Hungarian (again) :) room
painter, and he worked that job next 15 years, before start again
with shoemaking.
But sometimes he teach me something
about shoemaking ,especially focused on making patterns and uppers
making ,and when i was 14 years old ,i made my first pair of uppers
(i remember it was combination of black patent leather and black
suede ), my father was finish the rest .
It was nice period ,i was young , good earnings ,girls ...., but all beauty have the end , begins democracy ,economic transition , privatisation of factorys ,many people loosing jobs .....,than i start with my own shoe repair shop ,and today i live from that job , and i am satisfied.
But when i first time
i see Marcell video clip „shoe making in 7 minutes“ I experienced
flashback and memories of the work of my grandfather and father, and
I got an incredible wish to try to do something like that.
Than , i
was start to collect some pieces of tool (some pieces i made myself),
and materials for my first hand made shoes , when i collected what i
need , i begun with my first welted shoes ,it was something new for
me ,i made some mistakes ,but when i finished my first shoes i was
very proud on myself. And i am very grateful to Mr. Marcell Mrsan on his
work.
